Leveraged Finance Senior Underwriter / Director

In this Director role, you will lead and support Citi's Leveraged Finance Underwriting (LFU) team to enhance end-to-end credit management for leveraged lending. You will participate in credit approvals, ongoing monitoring, and portfolio oversight across sponsor-owned and corporate lending. You'll collaborate with cross-functional partners to structure, document, and govern complex transactions while driving governance and risk oversight. This is a high-impact position at Citi, offering visibility into senior-level credit decision-making and strategic initiatives in global leveraged lending.

• Oversee leveraged finance origination and credit approval alongside the LFU team
• Monitor credit quality and portfolio health, manage limits and early problem recognition
• Lead global leveraged lending projects and strategic initiatives
• Coordinate deal execution with Capital Markets, IB, C&C Banking, and Risk Management
• Review deal structures with Legal and Origination teams to ensure alignment with Citi standards
• Assess client business, financial performance, and key credit drivers to form strong credit opinions
• Supervise LFU Mumbai team for periodic client reviews and covenant compliance
• Mentor and develop LFU junior bankers/underwriters
• Develop governance framework for end-to-end credit underwriting processes
• Lead responses to Global Credit Reviews, Internal Audits, and Regulatory Reviews
• Stay updated on market trends in leveraged lending

• Master in Finance or MBA with 12+ years in non-investment credit or leveraged finance
• Experience in leveraged finance underwriting or origination
• Proven ability to lead multi-team/multi-region initiatives
• Strong writing, analytical, communication, and presentation skills
• Experience coaching and mentoring junior bankers/underwriters
• Ability to handle demanding responsibilities, work under pressure, and manage multiple tasks
